The spirit of Converse

Converse release their Women's Statement collection, reimagined!

24 April 2019

Today Converse announce their Women’s Statement Collection. Three rising designers reimagine Converse icons through their own unique design lens. Icons of the past. Designers of the future. This is REIMAGINED.

Converse products are defined both by their intended purpose, and how they are received, adopted and transformed by culture. This is how our story has been written for the last 100+ years. It’s this spirit that resulted in the phenomena of the Chuck Taylor All Star — the original basketball sneaker that became a cultural icon. It can also be seen in silhouettes like the One Star, which enjoyed a stint as a basketball shoe and was adopted by street and skate communities, building a heritage of cultural significance around anti-conformity, and the Converse ERX, the bold sneaker that was famously worn by Detroit's rough-and-tumble, back-to-back title-winning team, and also graced the feet of rock stars and skate legends alike.

It’s this spirit that contributed to a new collaborative concept from Converse: bringing together three innovative and rising designers to reimagine Converse through filters inherent to our DNA: sport and utility. Koché, Feng Chen Wang and Faith Connexion each approached the project through their respective lens and design expertise, working independently but connected in approach.

The result is a comprehensive collection of women’s apparel, footwear and accessories that is uniquely Converse, as expressed through the palpable creativity – and commentary – of Koché, Faith Connexion and Feng Chen Wang, who’s collection is her first womenswear capsule.

Designing with women at the centre, there was a plurality of thinking across each of the designers’ respective points of view, one that was fluid and intended to be interpreted and styled however its wearer saw fit.

Starting with two Converse footwear silhouettes, each equally classic and new, Feng Chen Wang, Koché, and Faith Connexion crafted a full apparel and accessories collection informed by Converse’s DNA across basketball (rooted in the Chuck Taylor and ERX), court (rooted in the Jack Purcell and the new Converse Mary Rina) and utility (interpreted through a punk aesthetic with the One Star and the new mashup Run Star).

The collection is Converse’s largest collaborative apparel offering to date, introducing new styles and cuts to champion an expression of women’s streetstyle. As Converse continues to push the boundaries of its design and celebrate the global creative communities driving important narratives through sport, music, fashion and art, it serves as a glimpse into our collaborative identity and offerings of the future.

Converse by Koché x Feng Chen Wang x Faith Connexion capsule will be available April 26 at converse.com.au with prices ranging from $140 - $170 AUD.

Please note that the full apparel collection is not available in Australia.
