With the hope to inspire young designers in the industry to challenge the confines of their creative consciousness, Allbirds have partnerned with LA streetwear brand Chinatown Market and Nicole LcLaughlin - the creative globally known for her beautifully imaginative customising.
Nicole has used scrap materials from Allbirds to design five unique pieces for Chinatown Market, transforming what would have otherwise gone to waste into sustainable works of art. The creations will be auctioned off on 7 August on Chinatown Market’s website, with 100% of the proceeds directly benefiting the The Okra Project (Black-Trans support) and Sunrise Movement (climate change focus).
Following a required $1 donation to enter the auction, participants can bid on: A vest, chair, pair of slides, and two very fashion forward purses.
In the next phase of the partnership, Allbirds and Chinatown Market will give their communities the tools they need to create responsibly on their own. Later this winter, the two brands will launch a 5 episode IGTV series which, available on Chinatown and Allbirds’s Instagrams in which renowned creatives (TBC) will lead digital sessions on sustainable design and DIY methods.
At the end of the series, viewers will have the opportunity to put what they’ve learned into practice. The final episode will end with a prompt that draws on the themes of each episode. Anyone will be able to submit their projects for the chance to win a two week digital mentorshipwith the Allbirds and Chinatown Market teams. The winner will spend a week remotely with each, getting a crash course on what these brands do best and gaining access to their materials, sustainability teams, and executive leadership along the way.
